This week I switched over to Sharp Copley. Here is where all the slides are made, stored, and etc. Over at Sharp memorial they send out the cassettes to Copley to be made into slides. It is the main lab as you could say. Due to the fact that they get so many slides it gets backed up a lot. Its important that the slides are stored and organized because pathologists sometimes need to re-examine the slides and if they aren't stored they cant find them. Everyday new slides come in from all the sharp hospitals. We get slides from 2022, 2021, etc. The slides are stored up to 10 years so there are a lot of them. Before they had a new program the slides would have to be organized manually. That means that they would be organized by the year, site, and numerically. Now that they have a new program we just put them in the blue trays by year. A machine will then scan them and when pathologists need to re-visit a site they can just look it up on the computer and it tells them exactly where it is. There were many old slides from 2014-2022 that needed to be organized and stored. Since they are older slides they need to be organized manually. When slides aren't organized they are basically lost due to the fact that there are so many its hard to find them.
