"A lot of stress and responsibility on doctors' shoulder where we get to do the fun stuff and they have to deal with all the stress."
"Even the bad choices that you make are part of the path to where you're at."
I've always known I wanted to have a career in medicine. I'm not sure what yet, but it's getting to the point where I have to decide. Throughout this internship I've been able to look and explore possible careers. I've never heard of pathologist's assistants or looked into pathology in general. This last month has definitely created an interest in this career. Throughout the interview I learned about Jenelle's journey and how she decided on a career. She mentioned some of the things I had thought about when choosing a career. I know being any type of doctor takes a lot of school and time. I wasn't sure if I was up to doing 10 years of school. There are definitely other things to keep in mind like a doctor's work schedule. Jenelle mentioned she was thinking of becoming a surgeon but also realized she didn't want to wait that long and wanted something that would still fulfill her passion for human anatomy but also allow for her to have a "life". I'm a person who likes to be prepared and likes to plan ahead, but some things you just can't plan. Not only has Jenelle mentioned that she changed her career choice, but other pathologists have mentioned the same thing. Changing your mind after already studying and working towards a career is a tough choice, but its a learning process.
